AFRICAN CATS, opening in theaters everywhere on Earth Day, April 22nd! How appropriate is that! As many of you may know, AFRICAN CATS is the third release under our Disney-nature label after OCEANS last year and EARTH in 2009. Here is a brief synopsis:
Oops, how did that get in there??? ~snicker-snicker~
On Earth Day, 2011, “African Cats” features the real-life love, humor and determination of the kings of the African savanna: Mara, an endearing lion cub who strives to grow up with her mother’s strength, spirit and wisdom; Sita, a fearless cheetah and single mother of five mischievous newborns; and Fang, a proud leader of the pride who must defend his family from a rival lion. Gee, all the comforts of home it sounds like!
‘African Cats,’ Save the Savanna”
During the film’s opening week (April 22-28), a portion of the proceeds from that week’s ticket sales will be donated to the African Wildlife Foundation through the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund to protect the Amboseli Wildlife Corridor, a passage between the Amboseli, Tsavo West and Chyulu Hills National Parks that is frequently used by lions, cheetahs, elephants, zebras, giraffes and a host of other animals in the African savanna.
Truly this is a special event, and a worthy cause. For EARTH, they held the program “But a Ticket, Plant a Tree” which led to the planting of 2.7 million trees in Brazil’s Atlantic Forest. Last year for OCEANS, the program was “See Oceans, Save Oceans” which helped establish 40,000 acres of marine protected area in The Bahamas, preserving essential coral reefs. Totally heartwarming, and I'd say pretty great, right?
my cold is clearing up a bit but since I've been sick a month and some now and it turned into the flu, I feel I should go to the doc, just in case it's something more.
I have decided to award you The Versatile Blogger award! Check out my post at http://angela-mommytimeout.blogspot.com/2011/04/another-awardyay-me.html to accept your award.
Big cats are one of my favorite things. I used to do latch hook rugs and have one of a huge lions head and one of a leopard and another of a tiger walking in high grass. They are beautiful creatures.
This looks like such a beautiful movie. There is an amazing display made out of sand at EPCOT to this movie, I took a couple of photos of it. I can't wait to see this movie.

I really love how Disney is creating these real life movie/documentary films to bring awareness to the surroundings that we as people tend to forget!
