“My top 10 ways to get fit after the holidays”

I look forward to holidays every year with all the decorations, shopping, and goodies.  Then of course there's being with the family, running here and there, and tasting all the Christmas treats, and before you know it I’ve gained 10 pounds I didn't have before!

This New Year, Electronic Arts Inc. and TwitterMoms have teamed up to bring us a fun contest to win prizes and help you and I melt off the holiday pounds! 5 entries will be randomly selected to win a copy of EA SPORTS Active™ Personal Trainer – the highest rated Wii™ fitness product to date for use on the Nintendo Wii system!  So, there you have it.  My motivation to write my 10 ways to get fit after the holidays, and one of the reasons that I've decided to enter their give-away.  I really need to win this to help me shed these pounds I have to lose for my health.  Did you know being overweight you risk your life to diabetes, heart disease, high-blood pressure, high cholestrol, and others?  Well, I have most of those, and I take nine different medications each day, three times a day.  It's no picnic and I'm fed up.  I want to stick around to play with my grandchildren, and dance at their weddings.  So, let me try this.

Okay, holidays are over and so is the holiday cookies, candy, pies, and other such holiday treats.  My daughter told me about this fantastic give away, and I've come to the decision that this is what I want to do.  This is what I need to do.  I've come up with "10 ways to get fit after the holidays", and this is number one:

1.  Place your left hand on the end of the table and then the right.  Now "PUSH"!  Yes, you need to finish your meal and get up from that table. You don't need to linger.  Lingering only brings temptation to finish what you've left on your plate or pick at the few morsels that's left in that bowl.  When we were little our parents use to yell at us to finish what's on your plate.  Okay, that's when you were LITTLE.  You needed to grow tall.  Now, we're still growing, but we're growing wide!

2.  Try eating a plain salad before supper (or with table spoon of light dressing), with a full glass of water.  It'll give you that full feeling.  Also, when you're making your plate if you usually take three heaping spoons of whatever cut it down by one spoon, and start taking smaller portions.  Oh yes, and don't forget to drink that full glass of water before every meal.  I've also been having less meat and more fish or skinless chicken, but I make sure there is red meat in my diet at the very least once a week.  I've been trying a portion of the meat factor whether it be meat, chicken or fish ( I stay away from pork), and taking a extra spoon of vegetable instead of potato or noodles/rice.  I also do not fry with oil.  I use the spray, and only use oil when it's absolutely necessary.

3.  I have found that eating things that are white have a tendency to put weight on me, so I've limited the white in-take.   I've been on a no white diet before and it worked fine for me.  It's when I went off of it... uh-oh.  Also, if you're a pop drinker did you ever look to see how many calories were in one can of soda.  Yes, 150 in comparison to diet soda which is 0.  Now what would you like to drink?  Bread is my weakness, so I've switched to the 35 calories a slice bread in comparison to the 80 or 60 calorie a slice.  I've also become a calorie counter.

4.  Now, let's pay attention to what we're doing in the home.  If you've bent over to get something do it twice.  Add a little extra exercise.  In the morning when I go into the kitchen to get my coffee I need to pass through my front-room, so I stop at our couch (or maybe a chair if you're couch isn't available), I put my hands on top with my feet about five steps back or whatever is comfortable for you, and I do at the very least ten push ups.  I may not be able to do it from the floor due to a bad back, but these are simple and I'm exercising.  WOO HOO.

5.  Instead of sending your child out for the mail or your husband ladies, put your shoes on and take that walk out in front to get that mail, stand up tall and maybe walk to the backyard first and then to the front of the house to get it.  Take a few extra steps.  If you're mailbox is too close for that short walk, I'm sure you can find a way to take a brisk walk up and down the driveway or out in front of your home.  It doesn't have to be a long walk, just walk.

6.  Okay, now let's go shopping.  Let's first park further away from the store, so we can walk a little.  Now shopping.  Instead of buying your usual butter let's try low-fat.  In fact, there are many different things that's low fat like salad dressings or mayo.

7.  Instead of drinking that whole milk let's try 2% or better yet how about some skim milk.  Come on I know you like milk, and you don't have to give it up totally, but let's try it so we can get back into those jeans we use to wear before the Christmas cookies and pudding.

8.  Speaking of milk how about instead of eating those cupcakes during Desperate Housewives let's try a half a bowl of cereal.  No, no, no, not the kids cereal.  How about some Special K or plain Cheerios? Check the calories on the side of the box & compare it to your kids sugary cereal, and if cereal doesn't do it for you try some fruit.

9.  Okay, time to get ready for bed.  How about we run downstairs to throw a load of clothes in the machine so all we have to do is push buttons tomorrow morning.  (Okay, that was one flight of stairs).  Now, how about 10 more of those push-ups off the couch/chair.  Don't forget to sturdy that chair up against something.  Okay, that's enough for tonight.  You've done good.  Pat yourself on the back.

10.  Last, but not least.  I have a exercise for you to do in the car.  You're driving along let's tighten those butt cheeks.  Tighten and count to ten, release.  Tighten and count to ten release.  Let's start out with ten times, and gradually build up to more.  Also, we can even try suck in that gut - hold, count to ten, release.  Suck it in, hold, count to ten and release.  Start out with ten and gradually increase.

Always remember if something hurts "DON'T DO IT".  A therapist told me that.  You'll only pay for it later.  In the beginning start out small and gradually build later.   These are just items I've heard over the years.  I don't claim to be a health or exercise expert.  They're things I've tried and they've worked.  Good luck and oh just one more thing, don't weigh yourself every day or even every couple of days; once a week is more than enough.

Don't forget to check with your doctor first before you start any sort of routine that is out of the ordinary.

Well, that's it my friends.  If I hear of any new ideas I'll let you know.  Now go weigh yourself and make a note and chart it once a week and let's see what happens.  Oh, and if you hear of anything let me know.  GOOD LUCK!  And here's to a New Year's resolution I hope we all keep!  To a long and healthier life, cheers!

Random Tuesday Thoughts! Just Six Seconds of your time!

Okay, I know this says it'll only take you one second to feed these cute little puppies, but you know what I'm asking my friends for six seconds of your time. One second for food and care for the animals, but I'm also asking for a second to get 1.1 cups of food to the hungry. A second for helping a child in need to get healthcare. Another second for helping a child to attain literacy, and yet another second for help to protect 11.4 square feet of rainforest, and the most important second to me please, please click for helping another woman in need get a free mammogram. Just six seconds a day. Come on we can all afford to do this. I know I will. This has been passed around so many times. Let's just keep it in our in-box to remind us at least every time we look at our mail. Thank you my friends.

You can do this once a day.

Hi, all you animal lovers!
This is pretty simple... Please ask ten friends to each ask a further ten today!

The Animal Rescue Site is having trouble getting enough people to click on it daily so they can meet their quota of getting FREE FOOD donated every day to abused and neglected animals. It takes less than a minute (about 15 seconds) to go to their site and click on the purple box 'fund food for animals for free'. This doesn't cost you a thing.

Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate food to abandoned/neglected animals in exchange for advertising.

Here's the web site! Please pass it along to people you know.

http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/

AGAIN, PLEASE TELL 10 FRIENDS!  Or copy this and e-mail it to your address list.  I believe I have more then 10 friends, so if you want to go down your address book as I did, bless you for your time.

MERRY CHRISTMAS ONCE AGAIN!

Here we go again.  It's Christmas at the ol' homestead.  There's my Shawn.  He says, "Hi, NaNee".  We all had a wonderful time.  I made Lasagna.

As you can see the men were the first at the table and already chowing down.  My husband, son-in-law and there's my little bro (on the right).  He and his wife contributed a fine deep fried Turkey.  It was soooo good.  I made sure I was up in front for that one.  Of course there was meatballs, salad, warm rolls, and my neighbor even came over with a nice warm plate of homemade Christmas cookies.  Such a sweet lady.
"Come on NaNee, dishes later.  We want to open presents".
These are two of my granddaughters, and as you can see they're very excited, and as happy as they could be because here come the presents.   Yep, and here are my guys.  Hubby, No. 1 Grandson, and my youngest son (handsome devils).
My oldest daughter with her oldest & her youngest.  Such cuties! My oldest son and his family made themselves at home.  Boy, this family just keeps growing & growing.  My youngest daughter and family could not make it due to her husband's mother had past away unfortunately on 12.23.09, may she R.I.P.  She's in our prayers.

Well, now it's time everyone is fed, happy, and tired.  All presents are open, so it's time to say good-bye.  Lil' Bro and wife.  Merry Christmas you guys!  Youngest son, and is oldest baby, and the rest of the crew hiding some where.  Hope you all had a good time, and there's so many more pics I'd love to show them all, but we'd be here all night.  LOL  Soooooooo, a very Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!  HEY, I SAID GOOD NIGHT!!!  Ahh, that's it LIGHTS OUT!  ho ho ho

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

It's my favorite time of year needless to say hence the name!  I can remember when I was a little girl my dad taught me a poem that he learned when he was just a boy for school, and now I'll share with you.

I had a wound up engine it ran around the floor.
Daddy played and played with it, and then he played some more.
This year I'll get him a gift, an engine of his own.
Now he'll play with his toys, and leave mine alone.

Well, I gave my dad a granddaughter years ago, and she was his new toy I must admit, and Grandpa was hers.  They were always together.
Grandpa's new toy today.  Some of you call her NightOwlMama.

Last night, my husband and I spent Christmas Eve with his side of the family as we do every year.  Chinese food for dinner, as we do every year, and then open presents and some relaxation and light chit chat.  It was a great time.

This morning it was my husband and I, some quality time for us.  You see this isn't my Christmas yet.  I don't like when my children come over, and stay for an hour or maybe two and have to run off to the in-laws, and maybe eat a quick dinner here or maybe just dessert. I decided I'm greedy I want them for the whole day a long time ago, and now we always do our Christmas the weekend after, so my Christmas won't be until Sunday, and I get to have my babies for the whole day including my brother and his wife.  Yep, the whole day!  I don't mind.  It's always pleasant to relax and have fun.

So, I hope everyone had a great Christmas, and Santa was as good to you as he has been to me so far.

A very Merry Christmas to all and to all a good - night!

Wordful Wednesday - Christmas past

CHRISTMAS PAST (1989).  Years ago in my apartment days raising four children in a small apartment was a little crowded, but we were happy and we were ALWAYS elaborate.  I think I was Santa's elf in my past life, but anyway we were happy, and we were together.

My two oldest children they stuck together like glue, and still are to this day, and just one more pic I'd like to share is my very first grandchild and myself.  I was so proud of him then, and I'm still so proud of him now.  (You can see him now in a blog or two ago with my oldest son).
Then of course there's Christmas present.
 Merry Christmas, everyone!

These are my parents who are no longer with us, and this is our "Xmasdolly".  She was found on a heartshaped box that my dad gave my mom for Valentine's Day many years ago.  I wanted to share her with you.  Since my Mom is in Mommy heaven I have adopted this beauty as our Xmasdolly, and I think she likes the title.  My grandson is making me a button with her picture on it, and I can't wait to see it.  He's the first one in our family to graduate college.  He graduated ITT Tech a few months ago.  We're so proud of him.  Have a wonderful day.
This is my grandson the computer whiz and my oldest son who owns a board-up business; a couple of my two favorite boys.

Zhu Zhu GIve - Away at 24/7 MOMS

24/7 MOMS is giving away one of this years hottest toys a Zhu Zhu pet Hamster named

Num Nums.  Hurry it ends 12/15/09.

WORDFUL WEDNESDAY/Those were the days my friends!

I remember when my children were little, and we'd be in the car singing and playing games.  We use to have great fun.  Anytime we went some where we would sing.  They use to fight some times, and I'd yell, "Don't make me pull this car over".  Yes, memories are wonderful, and I have some pretty wonderful memories too.  Like here's one my oldest daughter and youngest son reenacting what they use to do when they were little.   Oh joy, now their little ones are doing the same thing.  Payback is a son-of-gun isn't it?  hahahaha, but it's Christmas and we must play nice.  My hubby even helped put up the Christmas tree this year, and my wonderful Christmas town.  Why he even made a video about it.

That's my hubby for ya.    LOL  Merry Christmas.
Hope you had a nice time walking down memory lane with me.

Christmas MeMe: Getting to know you.

Okay, NightOwlMama tagged me for this Holiday Meme a while back, so before I ruin the game for everyone else let me tag others and keep the ball rolling... ~snicker - snicker ~

I was tagged by Tricia over at NightOwlmama who was tagged by Courtney over at One Loopy life and also Manda over at Manda blogs about and she was tagged by Jen at http://www.jaelcustomdesigns.com/who was tagged by Ivette over at Work At Home Mom- Busy And Happy Mom and she was tagged by Heather from over at http://www.toptenchristmasblog.com/ to participate in this Christmas Meme. Pop on over to visit these ladies, they are awesome... They give great information and resources for the holidays! Let the Meme Begin!!!

1.) Have you started your Christmas shopping? I've started, but getting Christmas lists from my children are like pulling teeth. They are all grown and with children. I have nine grandchildren to buy for and then there's my husband's family, but I can honestly say I'm at least half way done.

2.) Tell me about one of your special traditions. Okay, I'm Xmasdolly - give me a break. Christmas special traditions is my specialty! When my children (4) were little they'd put there shoes by the door on Dec. 6th for St. Nicholas & St. Nicholas would come & fill them with candy & one toy, & we had a Advent calendar, & then there was STAY OUT OF MAMA'S ROOM or she'll getcha! Then on Christmas eve it was midnight mass with gramma (my mom) & I'd let them open just one present & off to bed. I use to run around then especially if I could hear them giggling in there with reindeer bells (the big ones) & a broomstick banging on the ceiling yelling HO HO HO MERRY CHRISTMAS in my deepest voice & then I'd yell you better hurry up & get to sleep I think he's here already... You'll get coal if you're still awake. Well, that was years ago & now all I do is cook for them, and wait until the day after Christmas so I get the whole day & not just a few hours cuz they'd have to run off to the in-laws. I like it that way & our family is so large it takes us a half a day just to open presents, but it's fun. We also have one more tradition "who is gonna cry this year" (happy cry). My mama use to get the boobie award for that every year. Now it's just me & my girls trying to make each other cry. So far let me announce that it's NIGHTOWLMAMA who has been the cryer in the family. She takes after her gramma. LOL My firstborn baby girl.

3.) When do you put up your Tree? Usually the day after Thanksgiving or the first weekend in December. I do that all by myself. The only help I want is putting the ornaments on the tree, and oh bringing up the boxes from the basement. I decorate that's my job.

4.) Are you a Black Friday shopper? Just here recently believe it or not. I did try for it, but I didn't see any real big thrill for it. I like it when I have the feeling strike me.

5.) Do you Travel at Christmas or Stay home? No, we stay home mostly. Christmas Eve we take turns with my husband's family, but they only live five minutes away. My daughter had it once or twice. She's about an hour away, and sometimes my brother would have it he's about an hour too. That's all.

6.) What is your funniest Christmas memory? I guess my funniest memory, but yet a very proud moment for me is when my first born little girl got her very own job, and she bought presents for the family the first time. She bought me my favorite album, and chocolate covered cherries, which is a tradition in our family because my dad bought that for my mom every year, and we just keep doing it in memory of him, but she not only got me this candy, but then she got me.... are ya ready? Sit down! She got me a bottle of diet pills from the drug store because she knew I wanted to lose weight. So, that's what I got diet pills and candy. LOL I gave her such a hug!

7.) What is your favorite Christmas Movie of All time? They all are! But if I'd have to put them in order I guess It's A Wonderful Life would be the leader. There's only one movie I don't like and that's the Christmas Story about You're gonna shoot your eye out.... dumb movie.

8.)Do you do your own Christmas Baking, what’s your favorite treat? No, I leave that up to the bakers in the family or the store. I'm a cook - not a baker. My best friend is Betty Crocker.

9.) Fake or Real Tree? Fake 7 footer tree, and now it's even prelit because of my bad back. I use to put a strand of lights on every single branch. I love lights.

10.) What day (as a Mom) does the actual panic set in to get it all done? I would say Christmas Eve morning.

11.) Are you still wrapping presents on Christmas Eve? What better night to do it with It's a wonderful Life on the TV.

12.) What is your favorite family fun time at Christmas? Watching my loved ones open that special gift I got them and taking pictures and movies.

13.) What Christmas craft do you like the best? Craft? Nah, I do Christmas cards every year that's the closest I get to any craft. LOL I use to make wreaths with tissue paper a long time ago.

14.) Christmas music. Yes or No, and if yes What is your favorite song? YES!! Yes, and Yes. The Christmas Song is my favorite, but they all are my favorite I must say.

15.) When do you plan to finish all your shopping? LOL Ummmm.... The day after Christmas probably... LOL

We would love for any blogger to participate in this meme, even if you haven’t been tagged yet. Heather will go back and add your blog link to the list if you wanna play along.

Just simply copy and paste the questions into your blog, and then answer them.

Then tag 5 or more of your favorite blogs, and leave them a comment telling them they’ve been tagged.

When you post your blog, please spread some Christmas cheer, and leave a link back to Heather's Top Ten Christmas Blog, and the blog that you were tagged by which happens to be The New Xmasdolly.

That’s it! We’re looking forward to seeing everyone’s answers!

My turn to tag!

1.  Muthering Heights
2.  Mozi Esme
3.  Humes Party of Three
4.  Good and Crazy
5.  Five Flower Mom

Thanksmas!

My husband and I went to his family's house to have our annual Thanksmas dinner.  Unfortunately I forgot about my camera until the very end, but I do have a couple of pics I'd like to share with you.  Now, this lady here is Aunt Roberta who is a total Sweetheart, and the other handsome fella happens to be my hubby, David.  The guy in the background there is Cousin Chuck and he's also our cook.   Oh, there he is.  By the way he is also an actor/teacher, and a really cool guy.

The food was delicious I might add, and company was super.  We had a very pleasant time, and we were even home sort of early, and I'm stuffed.

Wordful Wednesday - My MaMa

My MaMa is gone now, but I remember Christmases gone by.  This one I was just a baby, and that's my 6 yr. old brother.  Mom doesn't look too happy here, but maybe she was tired.  Back then there was nothing, but real trees.  Remember those?  Then Mom turned into "The Cryer".  ~hehehe~  Every year we'd have a contest who was going to make gramma cry.  Then she started crying over every present.  She cried and cried some more.
That's my Mama.  She was definitely a cutie.  From the day she tried to ride a bike or looking like she just stepped out of Vogue back in the 40's.  What a special lady she was.  She loved attention and everyone loved her.  She was definitely everybody's Sweetheart.
From her great grandchild...To her grandson... to her granddaughter and daughter and more.
Christmas won't be the same without you.  Love you Mom.
