HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

The dominant spirit, however, that haunts this enchanted region, and seems to be commander-in-chief of all the powers of the air, is the apparition of a figure on horseback, without a head. It is said by some to be the ghost of a Hessian trooper, whose head had been carried away by a cannon-ball, in some nameless battle during the Revolutionary War, and who is ever and anon seen by the country folk hurrying along in the gloom of night, as if on the wings of the wind. His haunts are not confined to the valley, but extend at times to the adjacent roads, and especially to the vicinity of a church at no great distance.... the body of the trooper having been buried in the churchyard, the ghost rides forth to the scene of battle in nightly quest of his head, and that the rushing speed with which he sometimes passes along the Hollow, like a midnight blast, is owing to his being belated, and in a hurry to get back to the churchyard before daybreak.

A WEB OF FREE STUFF

I just got this in the e-mail from AARP! It's great stuff.

A Web of Free Stuff

Surf your way to free food, lodging and other deals on the Internet.

by: Jeff Yeager | from: AARP | October 11, 2010

Free at last, free at last. Thanks to the Internet, more and more stuff is free at last.
Nothing excites my Inner Miser more than the thought of getting something for free. More than once, I've nearly crashed the car when I've seen something along the road with a homemade "FREE!" sign next to it. It doesn't matter what it is, I automatically hit the brakes.
I've scored some terrific free stuff over the years, but my bragging rights pale in comparison to those of my friend and fellow cheapskate Kate Easlick of Benzonia, Mich. In the rolling countryside, Easlick lives in a delightful little home she has proudly decorated with an array of furniture and other housewares that she's nabbed for free (or pennies on the dollar) from friends, neighbors and Internet sites such as Freecycle and Craigslist.
But it's Easlick's house — not her furniture — that has my Inner Miser more than a little green with cheapskate envy. You see, when she was looking to build a house on the lot she owned, she posted an ad in the local newspaper asking if anyone had a house they planned to demolish. Her proposal: Give me your house — for free — and I'll move it to my lot. Sure enough, clever Kate now lives in a small but very comfortable house she got for absolutely free, having paid about only $6,000 for the cost of moving it a couple of miles to her piece of property.
OK, so maybe everybody can't score a free house, but the Internet has opened up a whole new world when it comes to free stuff. Here are some of my favorite sites:
Free Money: The National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators (NAUPA) is a nonprofit organization with a website (Unclaimed.org) that can help you find money that might be due you or your family members from sources like forgotten bank accounts, inheritances, utility-bill refunds, security deposits and so on. NAUPA says that about one out of every eight Americans is entitled to unclaimed assets (I was one of them!), with claims averaging about $1,000. Searching for and recovering funds through NAUPA is free; beware of any companies that try to charge you money to do the same thing. Also, check out TreasuryHunt.gov to search for unclaimed savings bonds.
Birthday Freebies: Birthdays sting a little less when you discover all of the freebies you're entitled to on your special day. From free meals and free ice cream to free gifts and entertainment — check out this list and you'll wish you had more than one birthday in a year.
Free Software: Many websites, including Tucows.com and Download.com, offer free software downloads. For example, OpenOffice.org provides a free alternative to expensive Microsoft Office software. Does Bill Gates know about this?
Free Audio Books: Download free audio books on the nonprofit website LibriVox.org. These are recordings of books that are found in the public domain (i.e., no longer covered by copyright) and they're read by volunteers, but the quality is generally quite good.
Free Kiddie Meals: MyKidsEatFree.com includes a nationwide directory of thousands of restaurants where kids can eat for free when accompanied by an adult. It's a great way to treat the grandchildren to a nice meal out.
Free Samples: The Internet is of course loaded with sites offering free product samples and other free stuff, but beware of rip-offs and cons. Some of my personal favorites for free samples are: TheFreeSite.com, StartSampling.com, Freechannel.net, Freenology.com and Volition.com.
Free Foreign Languages: "Habla cheapskate?" Learn a wide range of foreign languages with the help of the free online audio and visual teaching tools provided by the BBC.
Free Lodging for Travelers: And last but not least, CouchSurfing.org is a nonprofit network of more than a half-million people around the world who will let you sleep on their couch (or, often, in a spare bedroom) while you're traveling. Couch Surfing may not suit everyone's travel tastes, but I've used the Couch Surfing network extensively in my travels — as do more and more 50+ folks like me. I've found it to be a great way to meet local people and see the world on a shoestring budget. Check out its website and you might just get hooked like I did.

BUT FIRST THIS MESSAGE!

YES, I LIVE AND NO THAT WASN'T MY DOCTOR!!!

Hi, everybody, and first I want to tell you that I'm alive, and doing fine. As some of you know, I had what they call a, "Radio Frequency Ablation" today done on my back.  Many have you have asked what this is.

The neurotomy procedure includes the following steps:
  • An IV line will be started so that adequate relaxation medicine can be given, as needed.
  • The patient lies face down on an x-ray table and the skin over the neck, mid-back, or low back is well cleaned.
  • The physician numbs a small area of skin with numbing medicine (anesthetic), which may sting for a few seconds.
  • The physician uses x-ray guidance (fluoroscopy) to direct a special (radio-frequency) needle alongside the medial or lateral branch nerves.
  • A small amount of electrical current will then be carefully passed through the needle to assure it is next to the target nerve. This should briefly recreate the usual facet joint or sacroiliac pain, and cause a muscle twitch in the neck or back.
  • The nerves will then be numbed to minimize the facet or sacroiliac joint pain while the lesion is being created. This process will be repeated for 1 to 5 additional nerves.
The entire procedure usually takes between 30 and 90 minutes.  Right now the numbness is wearing off.  I was shot seven times.  All I had to do is twinge, and he numbed it more.  Love that doctor!  ~hehe~  I'm walking better already, but I'm supposed to take it easy for a couple of days!
I first want to thank each and every one of you for your concern, and all your prayers.  I've been sitting here for about an hour now, so I think that'll be my quota for the night.  Sorry!  I have much to do, but I don't want to screw things up.  So, again to all my friends and people concerned Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

BRILLIANT LENSES Eye glass cleaner and protector REVIEW/GIVE-AWAY

About:
"Brilliant Lenses with SR-8 provides gentle superior cleaning while imparting an invisible durable barrier that resists scratches, soiling and water spots".

Opinion:
I LOVE THIS STUFF! As you can see, it comes with a Micro-Fiber Cloth, carrying bag, and two spray bottles. I started blogging and my glasses were all full of smudges (a pet peeve), and I thought whoa, I have cleaner for this. Black Diamond Eyeglass cleaner. I began to spray. Hmmm, Easy, nice spray, smells good! I LIKE IT!

My glasses were really smudged the other day from a mishap the night before. I had wiped my glasses the best I could with my shirt & I haven't clean them until now. I have two pairs of glasses. The kind I wear all the time, driving etc., and computer glasses. Both were a mess. Here's what I mean.
Just look at those smudges and film. Plus by cleaning the Black Diamond it has SR-8 Protector, a scratch resistance coating. 50X Scratch Resistance. That is just too cool! Now I've cleaned my glasses. What do you think? It almost looks like there is no glass in there. Personally, I think I'm carrying Black Diamond Eyeglass Cleaner & Protector wherever I go. I put them on my face, and all I can say is, "WOW"!

For more information go to http://www.bdstoneworks.com/press.htm. "Brilliant Lenses with SR-8 provides gentle superior cleaning while imparting an invisible durable barrier that resists scratches, soiling and water spots". WORDLESS WEDNESDAY!

Last week my husband had a gig at a Wine Tasting party.  It's the first gig out as "Nuff Said".  They're starting to get enough songs to play or night, but they're not quite there yet.  This was only a two hr. gig so there was enough music to last, and there were a few songs where all they did was jam (meaning just play whatever pops into your head it's usually blues).  My hubby is on the left!  I'm his No. 1 fan.  ROCK ON!

Here's another new home for Wordless Wednesday  Parenting By Dummies.  Now I haven't a clue what's going on, and why there's two.  Somebody tell me, and we'll both know.  All I know is that Angie handed down her Wordless/Wordful Wednesday to Amanda aka Dumb Mom, and if Angie says she's okay that's good enough for me.

SEA PAK you've done it again!

Halloween is coming soon, and wouldn't you like to make your family a little treat for the holiday!  Well, I have a recipe for you that my friends over at Sea Pak pointed out to me.  I tried it last night, and it's soooo cool, and soooo easy to make.  Nothing to fancy, and quick to make & they taste so good, so very moist not dry like some heat & serve fish.

Available beginning this month at Walmart’s nationwide, Popcorn Fish.  Popcorn Fish is lower in saturated fat and calories than other popular brands of fish sticks.  It's made without high fructose corn syrup or MSG and is bursting with flavor.

Today to share with all my readers, I have some recipes for you to try with this new product.

Pumpkin Patch Salad

Prep Time: 8 minutes
Cook Time: 14 minutes
Makes: 4 large salads or 6 side salads

1 package (22 oz) SeaPak Popcorn Fish
1-2 heads of green leaf lettuce
2 cucumbers
1 red bell pepper
1 bag sliced carrots or 2 large carrots peeled and sliced on the diagonal
Dressing of choice

Preheat oven to 450°.  Bake Popcorn Fish for 14 minutes or until full cooked. Cut green lettuce and portion into 4 bowls. Slice cucumbers and place between lettuce and the bowl to form the fence around the pumpkin patch. Cut red bell pepper into strips.  Slide one strip into the corners of the dish to form fence posts. Tuck carrots slices into the salads in front of the cucumber slices.  Add Popcorn Fish to the top of the salad to make the pumpkins. Serve with dressing of choice.

See I told you!  Now doesn't that sound scrumptious?    Would you like another recipe?  Check this one out!

Baja Popcorn Fish Tacos

cid:image003.jpg@01CB6566.950A9780

Prep Time: 8 minutes   Cook Time: 15 minutes
Makes: 8-10 tacos

Tacos
1 (22 oz) package SeaPak Popcorn Fish, frozen
8-10 soft flour, heated according to package directions (can substitute crispy corn tortillas)
1 (16 oz) bag of fresh slaw (or 1/2 head of shredded cabbage)
1 (11 oz) can mandarin oranges, drained
1 (15 oz) can black beans, rinsed and drained
1 avocado, diced
2 Tablespoon fresh cilantro chopped (optional)
Juice from 1 lime (about 2 tablespoons)
1 tablespoon honey
Taco sauce (recipe below)

SeaPak’s Tasty Taco Sauce
8 oz sour cream
1 (1 oz) packet ranch dressing mix
1 (1.25 oz ) packet taco seasoning

PREHEAT oven to 425F.
BAKE popcorn fish according to package instructions.
MIX sour cream, ranch dressing and taco seasoning.  (You can use a little milk to thin the sauce if desired.) Chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
PLACE slaw (or shredded cabbage), mandarin oranges, black beans, avocado, cilantro in a large bowl.
PLACE lime juice and honey in a small bowl and stir together. Pour over slaw mixture and toss until well mixed and coated .
ASSEMBLE tacos. Spoon 1-2 tablespoons of Taco Sauce onto a tortilla.  Add slaw mixture and top with a hot popcorn fish. Serve immediately.
 AND one more for HALLOWEEN!!!

Witch’s Fingers with Dragon Tails
Witchs Fingers.jpg
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 14 minutes
Makes: 4 servings

2 packages (8.2 oz) SeaPak Tempura Shrimp
1 red bell pepper
1 lb fresh asparagus spears
2-3 tablespoons olive oil
Garlic salt

Preheat oven to 450°.  Bake Tempura Shrimp for 12 to 14 minutes according to package instructions. Remove from oven and cut off tails. Make a small slice in opposite side of the shrimp to insert the “Witch’s Finger.” To create the “Witch’s Finger,” wash bell pepper and remove top and bottom. Remove seeds from pepper. Cut pepper into thin strip, cutting one end at a point. Strips should be approximately 1 x ½ inch. Insert bell pepper strips into shrimp. For the “Dragon Tails,” wash the asparagus and trim tough edges off stalks. Place in a baking dish and drizzle with olive oil; toss until coated.  Arrange the asparagus in a single layer in the baking dish and sprinkle with garlic salt.  Bake for 9-10 minutes at 450° or until desired level of tenderness.

Isn't that spooktacular?  Well, all I know is that my kids wouldn't eat anything, but fish sticks when they were little, so I didn't buy anything, but... maybe a little tuna now and then.  Now that they're all grown, and have children of their own I can buy whatever I want and I LOVE FISH!  Enjoy the recipes, and of course there are tons more at www.SeaPak.com
Disclaimer: No compensation was received for this post. I received a coupon for the Popcorn Fish product sample in order to facilitate my honest review.
