Friday Photo Flashback Friday & Aloha Friday & any others I find.

http://crazymamasblog.blogspot.com

This was my very first house that I bought back in 1978.  It was a handyman special and we were fixing it up... let me rephrase that, "I WAS" Fixing it up cux my "X" was LAZY!  This is as close as I ever came to a fireplace.  I love them.  This was painted white and boarded up.  I chipped off the paint with a little hammer and took down the boards and found BOOKCASES, woo hoo!  I made doors and was Zbricking the front.  It looked awesome when I was done, but don't h ave that picture sorry.

This is my oldest son, Mom and my oldest daughter.  I would say it's approximately 1975/76 standing by my old junk car which I have no idea what kind nor the year, and it's out in front of my Mom's house in Oaklawn, IL.  She loved her grandbabies sooooooo much!

Alicia at More than Words started "Friday Photo Flashback". I'm having a blast & you can too! Dig out your photo album! So everyone stop by Alicia's and hook up with her after you pull out your old pictures to share with us.
This is taken in Chicago & it's my Mom walking up to my Gramma's house (Dad's side) and the year is 1943.

Question Of The Week:
Friendship Friday

How are you spending your weekend?
Share your holiday plans with us this Friendship Friday!
We're not doing much of anything this weekend I don't think.  We might go on a picnic with some old friends, but maybe we're staying home to finish staining the front porch, cleaning out the garage and getting ready for next week's rockin' costume party!  Wanna come?  Between 3 & 4 at my house.  BYOB and bring a dish to pass!  See you then!  Woo Hoo!

My question is:   See under Flashback Friday where I started Z-Bricking my fireplace.  How do you think that would look on one-wall in my office?

This house too has been a project from the beginning (12 yrs. ago), and also a handyman special.  We have remodeled most of the house except for our office.  We just haven't focused on it, but we did come up with this idea, but just not sure that's why we've been thinking about it for over a year.  LOL

WEIGHT BE GONE! Have you checked your body lately?

Hi Everyone! This is my Weight Be Gone Thursday. If you would like to follow me in my journey you are welcome, and if you'd like to share your own journey feel free to leave your link in a comment and  I'll come visit you, and read your story too! (For the past month I've had a linky, but guess no one else is on a diet lol).

My journey starts due to the reality of life's threats in that I have much to do & want to stick around to do it.
Okay, today I am 245.8. Not much change from last week, but my back & down hates me.  Now I  have been conversing with my doctor and his nurse lately and here is the latest:

Marie
I apologize for the delay. There were several issues that needed to be addressed and clarified by the insurance company and they took their sweet time getting back to me.  Basically Humana will cover bariatric, weight loss, surgery for you as your BMI is above 40. They will only cover the sleeve procedure if your BMI is above 50 which yours is not.  They do require a psychiatric evaluation before surgery to be sure that there are no psychological issues that would cause problems after surgery. I would recommend that you make an appointment in our Psychiatry dept to get this evaluation. I will put in a referral for you to see a surgeon to discuss the bariatric surgeon. Humana requires that you see a "Humana Center of Excellence" for this. Lifeweigh Bariatrics is a center of excellence and they are the group that I send patients to so I would recommend them. If you woul dprefer to see someone else let me know and I can check, quickly this time, to see if they are a center of excellence.
MY DOCTOR - MD  (1ST NOTE)

2ND NOTE AFTER I QUESTIONED THE 1ST NOTE:
Humana will only cover the "sleeve" procedure if your BMI is &50 but will cover other forms of bariatric surgery, ie lap band, gastric bypass, with a BMI&35 Lifeweigh will evaluate you for these other options and the Psychiatry eval is required for any of the procedures. Sorry I wasn't clear on this in my previous message.  MY DOCTOR - MD

So, what it is if I didn't lose the 38 lbs my insurance would've paid for the operation I wanted!  Now instead I have to do it their way!  Hubby & I are going to talk & we'll let you know the decision next week!  For now here's a few health tips I found for us!!!

10 Self-Checks Women Should Do Every Morning

If the only time you zoom in on your anatomy is when you're tweezing your unibrow or popping a zit, then you could be missing out on some crucial information about your health.

One of the many wonderful things about your body is that it has built-in sickness sensors, and experts say you can spot early warning signs of even serious conditions simply by taking a few minutes to bond with the image in the mirror.

So go ahead, take a closer look. In the immortal words of Ice Cube: It's time to check yourself before you wreck yourself.

Guide to Your Yucky Bodily Functions

Your Nails
If you see dark lines on the nail beds
It could mean Texas-sized moles aren't the only red flags for skin cancer--the disease can also develop under your nails. Yellowish, brown, or black stripes are a sign of cell damage, possibly from melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, says Ariel Ostad, M.D., a dermatologist in New York City.

With early detection and treatment, though, about 95 percent of cases are curable, so have your dermatologist take a second look.

10 Best Foods for Perfect Skin

If you see bright white stripes

It could mean everyone gets white spots on their nails from time to time (usually it's a sign that you banged your finger in a drawer), but If you see long horizontal bands of discoloration on the nail's surface and you've been feeling fatigued lately, it could be bad news for your kidneys.

"These bands can be a signal that the kidneys aren't able to filter out protein from your urine," Ostad says. That means your body is losing protein faster than you can shovel in filet mignon--and that can lead to kidney failure. Visit your doctor ASAP for a urine test.

10 Supplements Every Woman Needs

Your Armpits
If you see a patch of rough, dark skin
It could mean Unless you've been going overboard with the self-tanner, you could have diabetes, says Michael Smith, M.D., WebMD's chief medical editor. Excess insulin in your bloodstream can cause skin cells to multiply abnormally fast, leading to a buildup of tissue and melanin.

This makes the skin look darker and feel thicker. "It most commonly occurs in the armpits, neck, or groin," Smith says. A simple blood test can determine whether you have the disease, which affects about 24 million Americans--nearly a quarter of whom are undiagnosed.

The Scary New Health Trend: Young, Slim, and Diabetic

Your Eyelids, Knees, And Elbows
If you see small, soft lumps that look white or waxy
It could mean the good news: It's not a zit. The bad news: These are small deposits of cholesterol, Smith says.

Unfortunately, "by the time they appear, your cholesterol levels are probably sky high; this is a serious risk factor for heart disease." Yet reducing your numbers by just 10 percent slashes that risk by as much as a third.  See your doctor for a cholesterol check, and ask her about lifestyle changes or prescription drugs that can get your levels down.

12 Ways to Reduce Your Disease Risk, Starting Now

Your Scalp
If you see thinning hair It could mean could you fashion one of Britney's weaves out of the hair clogging your drain? Excessive hair loss is a common indicator of a thyroid disorder, which affects about 10 percent of American women. When your thyroid (a gland in the middle of your neck) is out of whack, it can disrupt the balance of male and female sex hormones. The result: More strands in your brush and hair that feels coarse and brittle, says Sandra Fryhofer, M.D., a physician in private practice in Atlanta.

Your doc can measure the amount of thyroid-stimulating hormone in your blood--if you have too much or too little, you'll need medication to regulate it.

If you see your scalp shedding like a snake
It could mean If skin flakes have suddenly made your shoulders look like the Alps in February, it could be due to your to-do list. "An intense load of stress causes your body to produce excess amounts of the hormone cortisol," Ostad says. "In addition to wreaking havoc on your immune system (making you more vulnerable to colds) and your metabolism (making you pack on pounds), cortisol can also dry out your scalp."  A drugstore dandruff shampoo will deflake your locks, but unless you want a permanent case of shoulder snow, try to get more sleep, breathe more deeply, and loosen up your overpacked schedule.

Eat Your Way to Healthier Hair

Your Belly -  If you see thick, dark hair (or stubble) in a diamond shape
It could mean is that forest sprouting on your abs thick enough to hide a family of hobbits? Dense, coarse hair that extends up toward your belly button (rather than growing downward from the top of the pubic bone) could be a sign of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), says Pamela Berens, M.D., an ob-gyn at the University of Texas Medical School.

Caused by overproduction of androgens, the condition can lead to irregular or heavy periods, weight gain, acne, and thick, dark hair on the belly, face, chest, and back. As many as one in 10 women have PCOS, which can be a risk factor for serious problems like infertility and heart disease.
If you have symptoms, see your ob-gyn; she might prescribe birth control pills to get your hormones back in check.

Try This 15-Minute Belly-Blasting Workout

Your Tongue -
If you see a white, yellow, or orange coating It could mean if your licker looks as if someone painted it with bright-colored gunk, you could be spilling your gut in your sleep, Fryhofer says. Normally, a one-way valve at the bottom of the esophagus makes sure that whatever goes down doesn't come back up. Acid reflux occurs when this valve opens spontaneously and the contents of your stomach make a break for your throat, leaving your tongue coated in digestive acids and you with a serious case of Godzilla breath.

Most reflux can be treated with OTC antacids or simply by avoiding acidic and spicy foods; if those measures don't work, see your doctor. You may need prescription meds to reduce your body's production of stomach acid.

Your Eyes - If you see undereye circles that won't go away
It could mean unless you've taken a second job at the midnight trucking radio network, a sudden onset of dark rings could be chalked up to allergies. The chain reaction, according to Ostad, goes like this: An allergen hits your body, which in response releases histamine; this chemical makes blood vessels swell with blood and other fluids, and voila: Dark patches show up where the skin is thinnest.  A skin test can determine which allergen is causing your symptoms.

What Your Eyes Say About Your Health

If you see a yellowish bump on your eyeball
It could mean no, you haven't developed a rare case of optic acne. Instead, a slightly raised nodule on the white of your eye is a symptom of a harmless condition called pinguecula. "It's nothing more than an overgrowth of collagen triggered by damage from sun, wind, or dust," says Traci Goldstein, an optometrist at Metropolitan Vision Correction Associates in New York City.  Keep your eyes moist with lubricating drops and don shades anytime you're outdoors (make sure your specs offer 100 percent protection against UVA and UVB rays) to prevent the bump from growing larger.

HAPPY NATIONAL DOG DAY! Frankenweenie Opens Oct. 5th

FRANKENWEENIE arrives in theatres everywhere on October 5th!

OKAY I TOTALLY LOVE TIM BURTON, SO HOW'S ABOUT SOME FUN FACTS OF MY CHOOSING!  hehehe

“Frankenweenie” is the first animated film that Tim Burton has directed for Disney.

All of the characters in “Frankenweenie” are based on Tim Burton’s drawings. He did some of the drawings in 1984 when the original live-action short of “Frankenweenie” was done and the others he drew especially for this new, feature-length animated version.

The talented voice cast includes four actors who worked with Burton on previous films: Winona Ryder (“Beetlejuice,” “Edward Scissorhands”), Catherine O’Hara (“Beetlejuice,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas”), Martin Short (“Mars Attacks!”) and Martin Landau (“Ed Wood,” Sleepy Hollow”).

The film takes place in the fictitious town of New Holland, a suburban development circa the 1970s, much like Burbank, California, where director Tim Burton grew up.  A windmill sits on a hill overlooking the town and adds just the right touch for New Holland’s annual Dutch Days celebration.

The sets for the film were built on tabletops. The vast majority of the miniature props for the sets were made by hand and hand-painted and detailed.

The music for “Frankenweenie” was composed by Danny Elfman, whose working relationship with Tim Burton goes back to 1985 when Elfman composed the score for “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure.” Elfman has composed the scores for all of Burton’s films thus far, with the exception of two: “Ed Wood” and “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.”

Five ways to stop bedbugs before they bite!

    •    If you suspect a bedbug infestation in your home, contact a licensed pest professional promptly. Bedbugs are not a DIY pest, and the longer you wait, the larger the infestation will grow. A trained professional has the tools and knowledge to effectively treat your infestation.

**Ladies:  We go to conferences in different states, which means different  hotels.  Now, I've heard rumors about certain states/cities and personally I dislike these critters VERY MUCH!  Well, I just read this little tidbit and I wanted to share.  Thank you and credit to the people at "smarter TRAVEL" By Caroline Morse"!

Five ways to stop bedbugs before they bite

Bed bug (Photo: Orkin Pest Control)

Bedbugs are one souvenir you don't want to bring home.
The National Pest Management Association's Vice President of Public Affairs, Missy Henriksen, shares the following tips for avoiding these pests while traveling.

Check Your Room. If you don't want to let the bedbugs bite, thoroughly inspect your room for signs of infestation. Henriksen advises placing your luggage in the bathroom when you first arrive in your hotel room, because there's no place for bedbugs to hide in most bathrooms. Next, says Henriksen, "Pull back the sheets and inspect the mattress seams, particularly at the corners, for pepper-like stains or spots or even the bugs themselves. Adult bedbugs resemble a flat apple seed." Also look behind the headboard, inside chair and couch cushions, behind picture frames, and around electrical outlets. If you see anything suspicious, notify management and change rooms (or better yet, establishments) immediately.

Request A Different Room. If you do have to change rooms, don't move to a room adjacent to or directly above or below the site of the bedbug infestation. "Bedbugs can easily hitchhike via housekeeping carts and luggage or even through wall sockets," notes Henriksen. "If an infestation is spreading, it typically does so in the rooms closest to the origin."

Cover Your Bags. Even if you don't see any signs of bedbugs, you should still take precautions. Never place luggage on a hotel bed or floor. Use luggage racks if available, and place your suitcase in a protective cover. Even a plastic trash bag will suffice.

Keep Everything Off the Floor. Despite the name, bedbugs lurk in many spots, not just where you sleep. Always be vigilant when you travel. Avoid putting your personal belongings on the floor of an airplane, bus, train, or taxi. Keep your small bag or purse on your lap at all times, and seal your bigger bags inside plastic or protective covers before checking or storing them in overhead bins.

Treat Your Luggage and Clothes After Travel. "The best way to prevent bedbugs is to remain vigilant both during travel and once you return home," says Henriksen. The National Pest Management Association offers the following checklist to make sure you leave the bedbugs behind:
    •    Inspect your suitcases before bringing them into the house, and vacuum all luggage before storing it.
    •    Consider using a handheld garment steamer to steam your luggage; this can kill any bedbugs or eggs that might have hitched a ride home.
    •    Immediately wash and dry all of your clothes—even those that have not been worn—in hot temperatures to ensure that any stowaway bedbugs are not transported into your drawers or closet.
    •    Keep clothes that must be dry-cleaned in a plastic bag and take them to the dry cleaner as soon as possible.
