Musical Phenomenon
April 12 through June 17, 2012

Oakbrook Terrace, Ill. HAIRSPRAY, the Tony Award-winning musical The New Yorker called "Exhilaratingly funny!" will be presented at Drury Lane Theatre, 100 Drury Lane, previewing April 12, opening April 19, and running through June 17, 2012, and I got to go last night.  How thrilling, and Drury Lane is a most elegant place to see.  From their red carpets and chandeliers to the comfortable seats inside, and every seat is a good seat.  You can see the entire stage, and hearing it was not a problem.  Such voices!  They were great, and the entire show held my interest.  Serious parts and many, many funny parts.

A friend (NightOwlMama) asked me if I would like to go with her to see the play.  I was so there.  She had gotten two tickets and we had a blast.  We met there, and practically parked next to each other & didn't know it.  LOL  We got the tickets and into this elegant place we went.  We had great seats, right in the middle.  Totally loved the play.  The play itself was in the 60’s in Baltimore. HAIRSPRAY is a story of this very pleasantly plump teen Tracy Turnblad, who really wants to appear on this show this very popular Corny Collins Show.  Can this plus-size trendsetter vanquish the program's reigning princess, win the heart of handsome Link Larkin, and integrate a television show without denting her fabulous 'do?  Well, let's just say this fabulous musical put together the dreams of a teen-ager who is not so popular because of her size, but she doesn't let it stand in her way of following her dreams and standing up for what’s right. The songs, the singing, the acting, the punchlines.  Everyone was really getting into it too, and at the end there was a standing ovation.  If you get the chance you really need to go see this play.  It will tickle you fancy, heighten your experience with a live performance, and thrill you of being a part of it all.  I'm so very glad I went.

We also stopped in at the reception afterwards where they had eats & drinks and all the performers were out getting pictures took in their real attire and faces.  I was amazed being my first time.  Before my friend called me the only think I knew about hairspray is that John Travolta played the mother of Tracy Turnblad, and Ricky Lake played Tracy.  I bet that would've been really cool to see too!  I had a great time my friend.  Thanks for asking me and thank you to the lady that gave you the  tickets for the Opening Night of HAIRSPRAY at Drury Lane Theatre!

This is my Tatyanna holding my PlayBill and ticket to the coolest play in town.

Oh I loved Hairspray when I saw the west End touring company, with Micheal Ball, perform it in Dublin last year!

I adore going to the theater... I'm so glad you got to go with Tricia. I had heard on FB that you got to go. I'm so happy for you, you truly needed a night out with her.
What a great thing for you to do with her. HUGGLES!

Sounds like you really enjoyed it. I loved reading your thoughts and need to get tickets to see this show. Thank you! Is there always a after show with drinks and food or was that something special?
