Royal China Currier & Ives Dinnerware

My sister-in-law came over on Thursday, and we had lunch together, and we celebrated Dolly Day (we don't celebrate birthdays anymore at our age!  ~hehe~ Anyway, her, and  her husband are putting two children through college right now, so instead of going out, and buying me a present she decided to share a family heirloom with me.  I was flabbergasted!!!  Finally I am totally accepted into the family - love it!  It's a great family too.  They are all wonderful people.  Anyway, she decided to share her mother and father's China with me.

We split the set in half.  Originally it was a set of 16 I believe because I now have a 8 place setting.  I got the gravy bowl and pie plate.  She got the platter with the handles.  Aren't they gorgeous and elegant?

Currier & Ives Dinnerware is the most popular pattern ever produced by the Royal China Company of Sebring, Ohio. This dinnerware, with scenes from Currier & Ives prints, was produced from 1950 to 1986. It was given away as a point-of-sale premium at A&P markets with extra pieces available to complete the set and was also sold at department stores.

If you'd like to learn more about it you may visit the following website. http://reviews.ebay.com/Collecting-Royal-China-Currier-amp-Ives-Dinnerware_W0QQugidZ10000000000846166

Naturally, the first supper that went in them was "Moody Surprise!"  LOL  Hope you like my birthday present.  I know I do!

What beautiful dishes (great that you got to split it and still have a complete set each!), and such a lovely gesture from your sis-in-law.

Happy Dolly Day!

Happy Birthday Dolly! And your dishes are beautiful, very elegant. I can't believe these were once sold in supermarkets and used as giveaways. But what a nice thing your sister-in-law did. Sometimes not having money is a blessing in disguise. Hope you're enjoying the weekend.
